Corian is the brand name for DuPont's flagship solid countertop surface stock . Its primary use, though it has many other uses, is as a countertop / benchtop board. It is composed of polymer acrylic and trihydrate alumina (ATH), a substance extracted from bauxite ores. It is a man-made product which consists of 33% binding resins and 66% minerals. Corian was the brand name initially meaning firm base. Solid surface countertops were first produced by DuPont in 1967, and are now manufactured by many other manufacturers, including the Avonite, Staron, and Mystera brands. Corian is resistant to stain and is also Non-porous. Seamless appearance: Joints can be made almost transparent in the production process by connecting the related parts with Corian's own color balanced two-part acrylic adhesive.  The surface is sanded and cleaned after the adhesive dries to create a quasi-seamless joint.
